how i became myself

The greatest lesson I’ve ever learned started when I “failed” at being who I thought I was. I spent quite a while in a grey zone – feeling uncomfortable, lost and not quite sure what step to take next. Turns out, in that specific moment, I became exactly who I was meant to be. With love from my friends and family, I gained courage in myself and learned that moving upward isn’t always the best path – sometimes you need to go another direction before you can even begin to make sense of your own world. I know I am not done with “failing” – but I do know I am excited, eager and hungry to learn what it will teach me. I’ve lived by this quote by Anne Lamott and believe it’s meant to be shared:

“Here’s how I became myself: mess, failure, mistakes, disappointments, and extensive reading. Limbo, indecision, setbacks, addiction, public embarrassment, and endless conversations with my best friends. The loss of people without whom I thought I could not live, the loss of pets that left me reeling, and dizzying betrayals but much greater loyalty.”
