put the kids to bed and hit record

Twenty years ago, it was impossible to start a radio show in your basement on a topic you were passionate about. Or to tune into a show focused on niche subject matter. Today, all that has changed. Technology has become a bit of an equalizer. And if you’ve got compelling, interesting content and a sense of humour – you can attract thousands of followers or listeners.

My baseball podcast “Dear Mr. Fantasy is currently toe-to-toe in an award competition with broadcasting giant CBS Sports. It’s mind-boggling. But that’s the beauty of technology, especially podcasting. You can reach a large audience interested in the same things you are. You can listen to content that you want to listen to, without all the other noise.

Apple’s iTunes Store recently reached one billion podcast subscriptions. Those subscriptions spread across 250,000 unique podcasts in more than 100 different languages – incredible. And I think we’re only going to see interest grow.

So, put the kids to bed and hit record. Share with the world what ignites you. You’d be surprised by who is listening and the great conversations you can start. Who knows what will be possible another 20 years from now…
