Imagine if you can that you’ve just arrived in a new country to go to college. It’s your first time away from home and you do not know the language well. In fact, you do not know anyone. The hardest thing you’ll do now is find your way through the support system at your school.
That was my biggest worry when I first arrived at Georgian last year from Porto Alegre, Brazil. I asked a lot of questions because I was not always sure where to go to get information. But it turns out it was not complicated at all. The staff at Georgian College made me feel safe and more confident, which is why I am so involved in school life now.
I recently graduated from the Inglês for Academic Purposes program and am currently enrolled in the Business Marketing program. Since last April, I’ve been Vice President of Student Engagement with the Georgian College Students’ Association. Also, I`m an International Student Ambassador with the Segal International Centre.
Being part of the Georgian College family as a student and staff makes me feel so happy, trying to make all the moments inside of the college unique and amazing for everyone. I have made new friends every day and I love that. In fact, the funniest thing is that I came alone to Canada and today I have more than 11,000 siblings here in Barrie, from more than 65 different countries.
I want thank all the Georgian College staff, all the students, the community that’s always really friendly and helpful and made me feel that this city, this college and this country is my home away from home.
