I have travelled extensively as part of my career in media, and I have worked for extended periods in various countries. Those assignments ranged from producing documentaries with Greenpeace in Europe, to recording armed conflicts for television news, and working as the Deputy Editor and photojournalist for a national European newspaper based in Athens. Regardless of the language spoken or the faith adhered to, the simple common theme of “treat others as you want to be treated” permeates through all of these cultures. That ideology is also the root of karma.
I chose to follow and promote the ‘pay it forward’ ideology through the creation of my new social enterprise, Five Points Media – a community-focused, broadcast-quality, online media service that offers a non-judgmental voice to those who are all too often ignored by mainstream news services. Our clients include charities, benevolent organizations, and community-oriented groups, including The Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie, Barrie Pride, the Community Give and Get Centre, Gilda’s Club, and about a dozen other qualifying groups to whom we have donated these services.
In an ideal world we all live what we believe, and we would be able to do for a living that which makes us happy. That has not always been the case in my life but now, due mostly to the support of my partner Kayte and my family, I am able to express my beliefs through my work.
Five Points Media is a social enterprise; meaning it is intended to work in support of the community while earning enough to sustain itself without being focused on profit. We are neither a charity nor a supported benevolent organization, and we do not receive any funding from government or other agencies. Five Points Media is a spinoff of our commercial business, 3B Solutions, which produces commercial videos.
