A mentor of mine sent me this quote early in my career and it has always stuck with me: “Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life. It’s about what you inspire others to do.” Sounds cliché I know, but it’s inspired me throughout the years to give back to those around me – friends, family and team members. In my opinion there are no limits to this philosophy.
I have had many influences, coaches and mentors in my life and career. Some showed me what I needed to do to be a role model, and others showed me what I never wanted to do to those around me.
There is a lesson in every interaction we have in life. Finding it and moving forward is the key.
As a 17-year-old single mother, my mom was my first coach, mentor and best friend in life. She is an incredible person who has inspired me to be the person I am today. I go to school every day at home and at work, learning from the college students where I work, my team and most importantly my family. It has been an incredible journey as a student of life, and I still have so much left to learn.
I want to thank those who have taken the time to teach me the good, the bad and the ugly of life, and I promise to continue giving back to those around me. Because without these people in my life I wouldn’t be the father, husband or leader I am today.
